Monk's Bowl Village
MONK’S BOWL VILLAGE [SOI BAN BAT ]
The Monk’s Bowl Village is located in a sleepy Soi Ban Bat, close to the Golden Mount Temple.
This small community originally migrated from the collapse of the Ayutthaya Kingdom and was founded at the same time as Bangkok by King Rama I, late in the 17
th
century.
Here you will find Thai Monks using traditional alms bowls to receive donations of food in the early morning.
Each bowl is made from 8 pieces of steel representing the eightfold path of the Lord Buddha’s enlightenment.
You can purchase a handcrafted alms bowl from one of the shops for around 300 to 800 THB.
