Phil travel guide Bangkok Thailand

Damnoen Saduak Floating Maket & Market on the Railway Tracks

Full day tour

An early morning trip at 7.30 am to a sleepy Samut Songkram province, about 1 hour from Bangkok, we will take you to an unusual market : Market on the Railway Tracks or an off beaten tour in Thailand's Maeklong Railway Market. When we arrive at this crowded Thai fresh produce market you will see the vendor’s stalls along the railway tracks. We can walk along the tracks (so long as the train doesn’t come). You will notice very quickly whenever a train approaches, the vendors scramble to remove their awnings and produce to a safe distance. Don't close your eyes !!!

After 20 minutes, we will arrive to favorite Ratchaburi’s Damnoen Saduak Floating Matket. Here you will see local woman dressed in baggy pants, long-tail shirts, and straw hats paddling up and down the river, or pulling their way through the more crowded sections selling their wares. You will see women cooking food and sweets on small stoves and selling various agricultural products. So why not try some Thai rice noodle soup or typical “Kanom-Krok” and shop on board !

On our return to Bangkok, we will visit the nearby Royal Thai Handicraft center before having lunch at a local floating restaurant by the river. Here you can watch a demonstration of intricate teak wood carving and see the beautiful finished products, including a wide range of furniture and home decorations which are for sale.
